Princeton Review Names UWG Among Best Colleges in Southeast (8/30/2013)

The University of West Georgia was named one of the “Best in the Southeast” colleges for The Princeton Review’s “2014 Best Colleges: Region by Region.” UWG joins 138 other top institutions on this list, including Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Mercer University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Georgia and Vanderbilt University.

Welcome Week Events Celebrate Students’ Return to Campus (8/22/2013)

On August 26, 2013, University of West Georgia students will officially return to campus to start fall semester classes. To properly celebrate, UWG has planned an exciting schedule for Welcome Week. Events will begin on Sunday, August 25, 2013, the day before the first day of class, with Freshmen Convocation and the annual Welcome Back Blast. Events will continue throughout the week as well.

Interactive Digital Magazine Debuts at UWG (8/22/2013)

The University of West Georgia magazine is going digital – and in a big way. Perspective, a biannual print publication, will launch a fully interactive, revolutionary website on Monday, August 26. Perspective Online will offer readers up-to-date information in the form of news, photos, videos and more, featuring every division of UWG. The print version will still be available each fall and spring semester and will be accompanied by the digital version, found at www.uwgperspective.com, which will offer new information around the clock.

Local Business Owner Shows Importance of Giving Back to UWG (8/21/2013)

Mark Camp, president and CEO of Advantage Office Solutions, one of the fastest growing office products dealers in Georgia, has contributed to the Richards College of Business Visionary Endowment and the School of Nursing at the University of West Georgia. Camp, a member of the Richards College of Business Advisory Board, has been providing office furniture for all types of commercial settings for 29 years.

UWG Hosts Gifted and Talented College Resource Fair (8/20/2013)

The Advanced Academy of Georgia will host the Inaugural Advanced Academy of Georgia Gifted and Talented College Resource Fair on Sept. 12 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Z6 Dining Commons on the University of West Georgia Campus in Carrollton, Ga. High school sophomores, juniors and seniors from the surrounding area will have the opportunity to gain valuable information about colleges and universities throughout the country as well as gifted and talented programs in the state of Georgia.

UWG Professor Wins Dale Brown Book Award (8/20/2013)

Dr. Patrick Erben, a UWG associate professor of English, recently received the Dale Brown Book Award for Outstanding Scholarship in Anabaptist and Pietist Studies. The award honored Erben’s book, “A Harmony of the Spirits: Translation and the Language of Community in Early Pennsylvania.”

UWG President and Alumni Celebrate Coweta County Freshmen (8/19/2013)

University of West Georgia alumni will join Dr. Kyle Marrero, president of UWG, and Wolfie, the UWG mascot, in welcoming incoming freshmen from Coweta county to the UWG family. A “Send-Off” event is scheduled for Thursday, August 22, at the Newnan Centre on Fayetteville Road. This free event will begin at 6:30 p.m. All Coweta county alumni are encouraged to attend and celebrate students who have decided to “Go West.”

Board of Regents Classifies UWG as a Comprehensive University (8/16/2013)

The University of West Georgia is excited to share the news that the University System of Georgia’s new Policy of Institutional Function and Mission, approved on Wednesday, August 14, classifies UWG as a Comprehensive University – previously, it was classified as a State University. The new policy went into effect with yesterday’s approval.

The University of West Georgia Alumni Association and the Richards College of Business hosted a panel discussion titled “Innovation in Business and Beyond” on Tuesday, August 6, at the Buckhead Club in Atlanta. UWG alumni were in attendance to exchange ideas with the panel members, including Missy Dugan, UWG alumna and the president and CEO for Boys and Girls Club of Metro Atlanta; Tim Houlne, CEO of Working Solutions; Greg Schulenburg, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Greenway Medical Technologies, Inc.; and Stuart Thorn, president and CEO of Southwire Company.

2010 UWG Graduate, Tangela Large, Stars in Pulitzer Prize Play (8/8/2013)

In 2008, then University of West Georgia freshman, Tangela Large knew she had dreams of one day becoming an actor, but had no idea those dreams would quickly become her reality. After graduating from UWG in 2010, she received the opportunity of a lifetime to enroll in the Master of Fine Arts program at Brown University on a full scholarship.

UWG Announces 2013 Hall of Fame Class (8/7/2013)

Four of UWG’s all-time greatest sports legends have been named the newest members of the University of West Georgia Athletic Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame Class of 2013 includes former soccer star Alex Udin, baseball standout Johnny Daniell, along with Vinson Cooper and coach Charlie Fisher from football.

University of West Georgia Announces Transition in Athletic Staff (8/6/2013)

On Tuesday, August 6, 2013, the University of West Georgia announced that, due to the increased demands of the growing athletic department, Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Daryl Dickey will focus exclusively on the athletic director position at the conclusion of the 2013 season. A formal search to fill the football head coaching position will begin in fall 2013.

UWG’s Annual Fund Campaign Raises $8,900 at First Fundraiser (8/6/2013)

The University of West Georgia held the Go West for A Day Bowdon Fundraiser on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at the historic home of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Cox in Bowdon, Ga. With 55 people in attendance, the event raised $8,900 toward UWG’s Annual Fund.

The University of West Georgia’s Office of Disability Services has changed its name to the Office of Accessibility Services. The name change comes in an effort to better define the services provided by the office.

Incoming Freshmen Complete Innovative Summer Program (8/5/2013)

Approximately 40 incoming University of West Georgia freshmen celebrated the completion of the 2013 UWise Summer Bridge Program with a closing reception at the end of July. These students participated in a four-week program, earning six college credits in two courses.

Southwire Welcomes First Cohort for Business Sustainability Honors Program (8/2/2013)

The University of West Georgia inaugural cohort for the Southwire Sustainable Business Honors Program convened yesterday at a welcome luncheon with Southwire President and CEO Stu Thorn. The luncheon provided the six incoming students with an opportunity to formally introduce themselves to Thorn and learn more about Southwire and its inception of the partnership with the Richards College of Business for the program.

UWG Professor Chosen for Renowned European Design Journal (8/1/2013)

An original art piece by Cassie Hester, an assistant professor in graphic design at the University of West Georgia, was chosen to be included in the 2014 Graphis Annual, a highly respected European design journal. Hester’s piece, a creative poster for UWG’s annual event “Art Incend,” was one of 150 award-winning pieces chosen from approximately 850 entries submitted worldwide.
