World War II Exhibit Opens at UWG’s Ingram Library (9/30/2014)

The traveling panel exhibit, Over Here and Over There: Georgia and Georgians in World War II opens Oct. 13, 2014, at the University of West Georgia’s Ingram Library. This exhibit, presented by the Ingram Library’s Penelope Melson Society, is free and open to the public and will be on display through Dec. 7.

UWG Students to Compete at 22nd International Economic Convention (9/29/2014)

The Richards College of Business students are ready to embark on another trip to India for the 22nd International Economics Convention in Mumbai. This marks the fourth year that a team from the University of West Georgia has made the trip. Teammates Cliff Cowart, Sandra Santiago, Khanor Runzi, and Courtney Thomas will attempt to equal last year’s outstanding performance in which the Richards College of Business team took first place in all six team categories. Dr. John Upson will again serve as faculty sponsor.

Governor’s High Demand Career Initiative Meets at the University of West Georgia (9/26/2014)

Governor Nathan Deal's High Demand Career Initiative met at the University of West Georgia on Wednesday, September 24, in a collaborative meeting to allow Georgia employers in the automotive manufacturing industry to share their specific needs from the future workforce. Deal started the initiative to ensure that Georgia provides businesses with a consistent, trained, reliable workforce.

Dr. Kyle Marrero Inaugurated as President of University of West Georgia (9/25/2014)

Not everyone gets a year to experience a job before they officially take on the role, but Dr. Kyle Marrero of the University of West Georgia did just that. He began serving as the president of UWG in July of 2013, but a year and three months later he was formally inducted as the seventh president in its history on September 19, 2014.

Richards College of Business Dean Nominated for Two Leadership Awards (9/22/2014)

The University of West Georgia is proud to announce that Dean of the Richards College of Business and Sewell Chair of Private Enterprise Dr. Faye McIntyre is among the finalists for both the Turknett Leadership Character Award and the Oxford Center Academic Leadership for Entrepreneurs Award. Both awards seek to recognize individuals who consistently demonstrate leadership, character and integrity.

UWise Named a 2014 STEM Education Award Finalist by the Technology Association of Georgia (9/17/2014)

The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG), the state’s leading association dedicated to the promotion and economic advancement of Georgia’s technology industry, announced today that UWise is a Finalist in the post-secondary outreach category for the 2014 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Education Awards.

UWG, West Georgia Technical College Sign Transfer Articulation Agreement (9/11/2014)

The University of West Georgia and West Georgia Technical College signed a new articulation agreement that allows both institutions to provide educational opportunities for currently enrolled and potential students. The agreement was signed by Dr. Kyle Marrero, UWG president; Mr. Steve G. Daniel, WGTC president; Mr. Pat Hannon, WGTC vice president for Academic Affairs; and Dr. J. Micheal Crafton, UWG provost and vice president for Academic Affairs.

Former Governor Zell Miller Visits UWG (9/11/2014)

The University of West Georgia welcomed former Governor Zell Miller and his wife Shirley on Friday September 5, 2014. Governor and Mrs. Miller were joined by Judge Mike and Carol Murphy, Regent Larry Walker and his wife Janice, Mayor Wayne Garner and his son Griffin and the Honorable Dink NeSmith for lunch and a tour following the signing of the Thomas B. Murphy Memorial Endowment. The distinguished group toured Speaker Thomas B. Murphy’s replica office in the Ingram Library sharing memories of the late Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives before the official signing.

Heaberlin Appointed as Senior Director, Chief Administrative Officer of Off-Campus Programs (9/10/2014)

The University of West Georgia is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Robert Heaberlin as senior director and chief administrative officer of Off-Campus Programs. Based at the UWG Newnan center, Dr. Heaberlin will be responsible for spearheading the growth and success of UWG Newnan as it moves to its historic downtown location in 2015. He will also be responsible for UWG’s Douglasville sites and other off-campus locations.

Inauguration of UWG's Seventh President, Dr. Kyle Marrero (9/4/2014)

Although he’s been at the helm at the University of West Georgia for a little over a year now, Dr. Kyle Marrero will be officially sworn in as the 7th president throughout a series of inauguration and homecoming celebration events September 18-20.

UWG Holds Exhibit to Honor Lillian Williams (9/2/2014)

The University of West Georgia presents “Lillian Williams: Celebrating Her Life and Legacy,” an exhibit to honor the first African-American student to enroll at West Georgia College. The exhibit will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 3 p.m. in UWG’s Ingram Library. This free and public exhibit will include a documentary video and panel exhibit highlighting Williams’ life as an accomplished wife, mother, teacher and student.
