Antivirus Software

The primary virus and spyware protection used on campus is Symantec software. We also have a site license for Symantec anti-virus software that covers your home usage for students, staff & faculty, as well.

To download the home edition, simply log into MyUWG and select the Support tab. Under the "TechNet" channel, in the "Software & Support" category, you'll find the download for the Symantec client.

Symantec FAQ

Symantec Home Edition Installation Instructions

BEFORE YOU BEGIN:

  1. When selecting your download, please choose the appropriate version for your computer and OS. If your computer contains a 64-bit processor please chose the Win64 edition if your computer uses the Windows XP Professional x64 Edition and Win64Vista if you use Windows Vista.
  2. Be sure that you uninstall any other antivirus software to avoid problems. Anti-Virus Software is not developed to be used simultaneously with other Anti-Virus programs. Quite simply, they don't "play well with each other" and can present some rather annoying system problems.
  3. Be sure you are authorized to install software on your machine. For most home users, your account may be the default and should have all permissions necessary to complete the installation. If you have multiple accounts however, you may need to log in as the Administrator to complete the install.
  4. Close all programs. This is simply good advice with any software installation. If the installation attempts to access a file in use, it could present some problems.

Step 1:

Download the installation file by logging into MyUWG and finding the download link under the "Support" tab, "Technet" Channel, "Software & Support" topic.

Step 2:

Once the download is complete, double click on the icon. This will open the compressed archive. You should now see all the files contained in the zip archive.

Step 3:

Double click on the file named "Setup.exe." This will extract all the files into a temporary directory and begin the installation. Depending on your "zip" software, you may be asked to confirm this step. If so, click "Ok" as indicated in the image below.
