Email Using Outlook Express 5 or 6 (windows)
The following tutorial applies to:
- Email accounts which end with "@westga.edu".
- Users accessing their UWG email from ON-Campus.
If your email address ends with "@my.westga.edu", please view the information for Student Email.
Step 1
Open Outlook Express.
Step 2
From the Tools menu, choose Accounts.
Note: If you have never configured, or used, your Outlook Express email program, at this point the Internet Connection Wizard will open automatically. In such a situation, go directly to step 5.
Step 3
Click the Add button and choose Mail.
Step 4
In the Display name field, type your full name.
Click the Next button.
Step 5
In the E-mail address field, type your full email address (e.g., jdoe@westga.edu).
Click the Next button.
Step 6
Click the down arrow on the My incoming mail is a ____ server drop-down list and choose POP3 or IMAP.
In the Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server field, type your mail server. If you selected POP, your mail server is pop.westga.edu. If you selected IMAP, your mail server is imap.westga.edu.
On Campus
In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server field, type smtp.westga.edu.
Off Campus
In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server field, type your INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER'S Sendmail or SMTP server information.
Click the Next button.
Step 7
In the Account name field, type your username.
In the Password field, type your email password.
Check the box next to Remember password if you wish to save your password.
Click the Next button.
Step 8
Click the Finish button.
* The following step apply to off-campus access only.
Step 9
Double-click your account in the Mail Accounts list.
Step 10
Click on the Servers tab.
Step 11
Check the box next to My server requires authentication.
Click the Settings button.
Step 12
Select Log on using.
In the Account Name field, type your INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER username.
In the Password field, type your INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER password.
Check the box next to Remember password.
Click the OK button.
Step 13
Select the Advanced tab.
Under the Incoming Mail (POP3 or IMAP), place a check in the box labeled This server requires secure connection (SSL).
Click the OK button.
