Email Using Outlook Express 5 (mac)
The following tutorial applies to:
- Email accounts which end with "@westga.edu".
- Users accessing their UWG email from on/off-campus.
If your email address ends with "@my.westga.edu", please view the information for Student Email.
Step 1
Open Outlook Express.
Step 2
Select: I already have an Internet e-mail account, but I have never used that account on this computer; or I have used another program but I don't want to import anything from that program.
Click the Right Arrow button.
Step 3
In the Display Name field, type your name.
Click the Right Arrow button.
Step 4
In the E-mail address field, type your full email address (e.g., jdoe@westga.edu ).
Click the Right Arrow button.
Step 5
Click the arrow box on the My incoming mail server is a(n) pop-up list and choose POP or IMAP.
In the Incoming mail (POP, IMAP) server field, type your incoming mail server. If you selected POP, your mail server is pop.westga.edu. If you selected IMAP, your mail server is imap.westga.edu.
On Campus
In the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) server field, type:
Off Campus
In the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) server field, type your INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER's Sendmail or SMTP information.
Click the Right Arrow button.
Step 6
In the Account ID field, type your user name.
In the Password field, type your email password.
Click the Right Arrow button.
Step 7
In the Account name field, type your user name.
Click the Finish button.
* The follwing steps apply to off-campus access only.
Step 8
From the Tools menu, choose Accounts.

Step 9
Double-click your mail account in the Accounts list.
Step 10
Click the button labeled Click here for advanced receiving options at the bottom.
Place a check in the box labeled This POP / IMAP service requires a secure connection (SSL).
Step 11
Click the Click here for advanced sending options button.
Step 12
Check the box next to SMTP server requires authentication.
Select Log on using.
In the Account ID field, type your INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER user name.
In the Password field, type your INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER password.
Check the box next to Save password.
Close the Advanced sending options window.
Click the OK button.
