Networking at UWG
We all use the data network and depend upon it, but how does it work? Or, in a more urgent situation, why is it NOT working? This class will equip you with the bare essential knowledge to understand how a data network functions. You will learn the general topology of our network here at UWG. With this understanding, we will demonstrate what results when various components fail. You will learn how to diagnose networking problems as an end user. And finally, we will address any questions you have about networking here at UWG.

Open Text CMS (formerly Reddot) Intermediate
If your department or organization is already using Open Text for website management and you would like more advanced training in how to use tables and different content classes, this course is for you! Participants should already have a basic understanding of working with RedDot and publishing to the live web.

ITS Graphics & PowerPoint Class
Most of us use PowerPoint to create slide presentations, but did you know this software application can also be used to create graphics at a very low cost? In this class you will have an opportunity to learn how to design full sized posters for your department events, logo design, customizable clip art etc.

Microsoft OneNote 2007 helps you gather, organize, find, and share your notes and information-including typed or handwritten text, pictures, graphics, photos, and audio/video recordings-in one place. It is part of the new Office 2007 package.

This class offers an overview of the new MS Office 2007. You will learn what changed from Office 2003, how to set up the ‘ribbon’, how to navigate through the new layout and which features are new or much improved. This class does not specify any one feature of Office 2007 but we will feature the most used programs like Excel and Word and Power Point.

Faculty IT Orientation
This course is provided for new faculty entering UWG as well as any current faculty who would like a refresh on what IT services we have to offer. This session provides overview information on our Service Desk, Service Catalog, Exam Scanning, Listservs, Wireless Network, Software, CanIt, myUWG Portal, BanWeb, Webmail, and Information Security.
Digital Photography Basics
This introductory level class covers the basics of digital photography. You will learn proper shooting techniques that will help you sharpen your digital photo skills.
Introduction to Excel 2007
This introduction will include discussion on the Ribbon, Excel terminology, navigating around worksheets, formatting columns and rows, formulas and functions, etc.
CanIt
CanIt is the anti-spam, anti-virus email gateway for UWG email accounts. This class is an introduction to the CanIt system, and covers login and access to preferences, control of trapped email, and how to work with blacklists and whitelists without accidentally blocking Grandma.
Windows Movie Maker
Have you ever wanted to put together an impressive presentation of your photos? Or, perhaps create a still frame tutorial? Or, even record video with voice or title layovers? All of this is possible using Windows Movie Maker! This is a 2 hour course to teach you the basic functions from development to production.
Dreamweaver: Introduction
Learn the basic functions of Dreamweaver from setting up your account to developing and publishing web pages. Topics include text formatting, inserting images, hyperlinks, tables, and style sheets.

Excel for Faculty
An interactive introduction or review of Excel basics with an emphasis on potential uses for teaching and grading. We will explore class roles and grade calculation specifically but allow plenty of time for questions.
The Internet & Your Budget
In this class you will learn how some services online may be a great alternative to the more costly ones used daily. Learn how to use these websites through demonstration, grasp the concept of cookies, VoIP & peer2peer, and security issues. Cost comparisons will show how using the Internet to your advantage can reduce the strain on your budget in these tough economic times.
Malware (Cyber Security Awareness Month Class)
What are the different types of malware, how do our computers become infected and what can we do to prevent it from happening.
Safer Internet for Children (Cyber Security Awareness Month Class)
In this class we will discuss the risks of Internet access, the security of Internet communication and methods for improving the safety of your children on-line. Topics include email, instant messaging, browsing and games.
Safe Web Browsing & Social Networking (Cyber Security Awareness Month Class)
It’s not just children who are vulnerable on the Internet, we all are! UWG’s ISO offers tips on how to browse the Internet safely, how to protect yourself from predators and how to use social networking sites safely with respect for your own privacy.

Using a Flatbed Scanner (CSMS)
In this class you will be shown some of the basic scanning techniques available to Faculty and Staff. The session will cover scanning individual or multiple documents at a time including pictures and text documents. We will also show you how to bring scanned files into other applications for editing purposes.
Portal @ UWG
Whether you've never used the campus portal, or simply want to see what the newest version has to offer, this is the class for you. This introductory class will cover the basics: what is the portal? How do I login, what are tabs, columns, and channels? What can the campus portal do for me?
Facebook: what, how and....why?
Is everybody you know on Facebook but you’re not and you feel ‘left behind’? Would you like to tip your toes into this social networking site but don’t know how or you’re intimidated by it? Or have you signed up but you’re not sure what’s next? Would you like to know more before allowing your children to participate? This is the class for you! The instructor will explain the what, the how and the why of Facebook, how and where to set security settings, what can happen with the pictures you post etc …
ITS Town Hall Meeting: "West Georgia and the Windows 7 Migration"
Windows 7 is the new Microsoft Operating System to replace Windows XP. It was officially released to the public in October of 2009. Come join ITS for a town hall meeting to talk about what we're doing to get the campus upgraded to the new operating system, and how it will impact UWG, your department and your workstation. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 1, at 2:30 p.m. at UCC 312.

IT Speak
Have you called the Service Desk or had a visit from one of our IT technicians and not understood a word of their questions in effort to diagnose the problem you are experiencing? Is our approach too technical and the terminology beyond comprehension? If so, you might enjoy this very informative class! Your instructor will go over technical terms and abbreviations most frequently used in our world, and explain what they actually mean.

In light of National Cyber Security Awareness Month 2010 and walking hand in hand with our overall topic about “Privacy”, UWG’s Registrar Office will offer a presentation about the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), how it impacts each of us on campus!
Digital Fingerprint
We leave digital fingerprints in almost everything we do. Our world is a mass of interconnected information that is transacted and stored in some type of binary (digital) format. Shopping, web searches, emails, phone calls, doctor’s visits, online chats, online social networks; indeed, everything we do leaves behind some unique identifier of our digital self. Mardel Shumake will introduce us to the concept of a digital fingerprint and discuss its impact on our civil rights. As we progress through Cyber
Security Awareness Month, he will address some of the privacy laws enacted to help protect our privacy.
