Networking at UWG

We all use the data network and depend upon it, but how does it work?  Or, in a more urgent situation, why is it NOT working? This class will equip you with the bare essential knowledge to understand how a data network functions.  You will learn the general topology of our network here at UWG.  With this understanding, we will demonstrate what results when various components fail.  You will learn how to diagnose networking problems as an end user.  And finally, we will address any questions you have about networking here at UWG.

If your department or organization is already using Open Text for website management and you would like more advanced training in how to use tables and different content classes, this course is for you!  Participants should already have a basic understanding of working with RedDot and publishing to the live web.

ITS Graphics & PowerPoint Class

Most of us use PowerPoint to create slide presentations, but did you know this software application can also be used to create graphics at a very low cost? In this class you will have an opportunity to learn how to design full sized posters for your department events, logo design, customizable clip art etc.

This class does not specify any one feature of Office 2007 but we will feature the most used programs like Excel and Word and Power Point.

CanIt is the anti-spam, anti-virus email gateway for UWG email accounts.  This class is an introduction to the CanIt system, and covers login and access to preferences, control of trapped email, and how to work with blacklists and whitelists without accidentally blocking Grandma.

Using a Flatbed Scanner (CSMS)

In this class you will be shown some of the basic scanning  techniques available to Faculty and Staff. The session will cover  scanning individual or multiple documents at a time including pictures  and text documents. We will also show you how to bring scanned files  into other applications for editing purposes.

ITS Town Hall Meeting: "West Georgia and the Windows 7 Migration"

Windows 7 is the new Microsoft Operating System to replace Windows XP.  It was officially released to the public in October of 2009. Come join ITS for a town hall meeting to talk about what we're doing to get the campus upgraded to the new operating system, and how it will impact UWG, your department and your workstation. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 1, at 2:30 p.m. at UCC 312.

Digital Fingerprint

We leave digital fingerprints in almost everything we do. Our world is a mass of interconnected information that is transacted and stored in some type of binary (digital) format. Shopping, web searches, emails, phone calls, doctor’s visits, online chats, online social networks; indeed, everything we do leaves behind some unique identifier of our digital self. Mardel Shumake will introduce us to the concept of a digital fingerprint and discuss its impact on our civil rights. As we progress through Cyber
Security Awareness Month, he will address some of the privacy laws enacted to help protect our privacy.
