Fall Choral Concert

photoThe UWG Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dr. Kevin Hibbard, will present a Fall Choral Concert on Tuesday, November 17, at 8:15 p.m. in the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts. The concert is free. Jan Adams will accompany the Concert Choir on the piano.

The Concert Choir music will include a Handel oratorio chorus, a short motet by Slovenian composer Damijan Mocnik, three attractive Spanish pieces, three spirituals, and more. A featured piece on the program is a stunning setting of “You Are the Music” by composer Dan Forrest, scored for chorus, soprano solo, piano, and horn. “It’s the choir’s favorite piece, and the horn adds a wonderful bit of color to the sonority,” said Kevin Hibbard, Director of Choirs. Graduate student Sarah Greer will perform the vocal solo. Music Education major Sarah Nystrom, a graduate of Carrollton High School, will perform on horn.

The Chamber Singers’ repertoire will include an Italian madrigal by Arcadelt, and music by German, French, Hungarian, Norwegian, and American composers, including “Prayer of the Children” by Kurt Bestor. The Chamber Singers will conclude with a vocal jazz arrangement of George Gershwin’s Academy Award-winning song “You Can’t Take that away from Me.”
