UWG Percussion Ensemble

photoThe University of West Georgia percussion students are in concert on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 8:15 PM in the Townsend Theatre on the UWG Campus.  The Concert Percussion Ensemble, solo marimba performances by UWG students, and the renowned Jazz Percussion Group will be featured on the concert.  The concert is free and open to the public.

The majority of the selections will consist of music that has been specifically written for percussion instruments.  Selections for Wednesday include Gillingham’s Stained Glass, Udow’s African Welsome Piece, and Ford’s Head Talk.  Additional unconventional pieces will also be performed that include Chop It, and an improvisatory work entitled “Interactive.”

The Jazz Percussion Group (JPG) will be performing new repertoire and works in preparation for their upcoming performances.  In addition, the JPG will feature new members and new tunes “just for fun.”

As with most percussion events, the evening will also feature various percussion students performing solo works.  The event will feature a wide variety of music from the classics to modern, and from the typical to the highly unusual.  The only predictable part of this type of program is there is surely something for everyone on November 18, 2009 at 8:15 PM in the Townsend Theatre on the UWG Campus.
