Training Institute for Physics and Physical Science
TIPPS: Kinematics and Dynamics
June 3-8, 2007
The University of West Georgia and the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) will offer workshop training on physics content and teaching techniques on kinematics and dynamics on the campus of the University of West Georgia June 3-8, 2007. The workshop is funded by the Math Science Program (MSP) and will use the program developed by Physics Teaching Resource Agents (PTRA), a proven program for middle school and high school teachers.
Target schools for the 2007 workshop are the West Georgia RESA area. Applications from teachers at schools outside that region will be accepted if the teachers from the target schools do not fill up the workshop.
The workshops are led by two of the best High School Teachers in the PTRA program. The activities consist of a one-week workshop in the summer followed by 2 two-day workshops during the academic year. By participating in TIPPS, you will receive:
- Stipend of $400
- Travel expenses
- Make & Take supplies
- Graduate (3) credits in physics or 4 PLUs may be arranged
The curriculum for the 2007 summer's workshop is the study of kinematics and dynamics. This workshop material is designed to help you meet local and state standards. In this workshop you will:
- Actively study and experiment with the physics content,
- Have time to analyze teaching techniques,
- Develop techniques to run your own workshops.
Another workshop covering other topics of physics may be offered in 2008.
The University of West Georgia was named by the Princeton Review as one of the best colleges in the Southeast and as one of America's Best Value Colleges. Graduate programs are available in the College of Education.
