Master Sergeant Mike Keener, originally from Conyers, GA is a graduate of the University of West Georgia, receiving his B.S. in Criminology, in December 2013. He joined the University of West Georgia Police Department in 2006 and has worked on both day and evening shifts. He was promoted to the Criminal Investigations Division in 2011. MSgt. Keener also heads up the on campus women’s self-defense program (R.A.D.) and has been a certified self-defense instructor since 2007. MSgt. Keener is a P.O.S.T. Instructor, Field Training Officer, has completed the Intermediate, Advanced, Supervision and Management certifications, and is a graduate of the Georgia Command College Professional Management Program. He was the 2009 Officer of the Year and was awarded the Department Leadership award in 2014. As an Eagle Scout, MSgt. Keener enjoys being in the outdoors, practices his wilderness craft skills on a regular basis, and is an avid recreational shooter. MSgt Keener enjoys case law, as well as reading horror, science fiction, and crime novels. Some of his favorite authors are H.P. Lovecraft, Stephen King, Orson Scott Card, and Isaac Asimov. His favorite movie is Red Dawn (1984).
