Narrative

The University of West Georgia’s senior academic and administrative offers have the academic credentials, experience, and capacity to lead the University. Each officer’s curriculum vita is outlined below.

President:   Dr. Beheruz N. Sethna is in his sixteenth year at UWG as President. During these sixteen years he has also held two positions at the Board of Regents University System office as Interim Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer (2006-2007) and Interim Senior Vice Chancellor (1999-2000).  Prior to UWG, Dr. Sethna served as Interim Executive Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and Dean of the College of Business at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.  Dr. Sethna has more than thirty-five years' experience in higher education administration and as a faculty member.  He earned a Ph. D. in Marketing, an M.B.A. in Business Administration, and an M.Phil. in Philosophy. He also holds academic rank as full professor.

Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs:   Dr. Sandra S. Stone is in her second year as Interim Vice President. She also served as Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs in 2006 as well as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs from 2002-2006 at UWG. Dr. Stone was also employed at the Board of Regents University System of Georgia Administrative Office for three years with titles of Vice Chancellor of Academic Planning and Programming, Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives, and Interim Director, Southern Polytechnic Applied Research Center. She also has fourteen years additional experience as a faculty member along with experience in state government and the non-profit sector. Dr. Stone earned a Ph.D. in Sociology and an M.A. in Psychology.  She holds faculty rank as a tenured, full professor.
 
Vice President for Business and Finance:   Mr. James Sutherland is in his third year at the University of West Georgia as Vice President.  Prior to UWG he served as Vice President for Administration and Finance at Kutztown University.  Mr. Sutherland has over twenty two years experience in higher education administration.  Mr. Sutherland also has experience in the business sector as a President and Chief Executive Officer for over six years.  Mr. Sutherland earned an M.B.A. in Business Administration and is an active C.P.A.

Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management: Dr. Melanie McClellan is in her tenth year as Vice President.  Prior to UWG she served as the Acting Vice President for Student Affairs at Georgia Southern University.  Dr. McClellan has over twenty nine years experience in higher education administration.  She earned a Ph.D. in Higher Education and Student Affairs and an M.Ed. in Counseling, with an emphasis in College Student Personnel.

Vice President for University Advancement:  Dr. Michael Ruffner is in his second year as Vice President.  Prior to UWG he served as Vice Chancellor, Communications and University Relations, and Special Advisor to the President at Louisiana State University.  Dr.  Ruffner has over twenty-two years experience in the business sector areas of marketing and public affairs with such companies as CBS,VIACOM, NBC, and CBS. Dr. Ruffner also brings in over nine years experience in higher education administration. He earned a Ph.D. in Mass Communications and Research and an M.A. in Journalism.

Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences:   Dr. George Kieh, Jr. is in his first year as Dean.  Prior to UWG he served as Professor of Political Science and African-American Studies at Grand Valley State University. He has served as Dean of International Affairs at Grand Valley State along with many director positions.  Dr. Kieh has over thirty-two years combined experience as a higher education administrator and a faculty member.  He earned a Ph.D and an M.A. in Political Science.  He also holds faculty rank as a tenured, full professor.

Dean of the Richards College of Business: Dr. Faye McIntyre is in her fifth year as Dean.  She also served as the Interim Dean for one year prior.  Dr. McIntyre served as a faculty member for UWG for over seven years prior to her appointment as Dean.  Prior to UWG, she served as the Research Chair in Business Administration at Rockhurst University. She has over twenty-one years combined experience as an administrator and a faculty member. Dr. McIntyre earned a Ph.D. and an M.B.A. in Business Administration. She also holds faculty rank as a tenured, full professor.

Dean of the College of Education: Dr. Kim Metcalf is in his second year as dean. He also served as Director of the Evaluation Center for two years.  Prior to UWG, Dr. Metcalf served as the Director of the Assessment and Gifted and Talented Programs, Monroe County Community School Corporation. He has over sixteen years in higher education administration in addition to experience as a faculty member. Dr. Metcalf earned a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Teacher Education/Educational Research and Evaluation.  He also holds faculty rank as a tenured, full professor.

Dean of the Graduate School: Dr. Charles W. Clark is in his first year as Dean. He served three years as the Interim Dean of the Graduate School. Prior to the Dean appointment Dr. Clark was the Chair of the History Department for five years at UWG.  Before coming to UWG Dr. Clark served in different administrative positions such as Chair of the Division of General Education, Chair of the Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Chair of the Department of History at St. Andrews Presbyterian College. Dr. Clark has over sixteen years experience as a higher education administrator in addition to fifteen years in higher education as a faculty member.  Dr. Clark earned a Ph.D. in Medieval History and an M.A. in History.  He also holds faculty rank as a tenured, full professor.

Dean of the Honors College, Extended Degree Programs and USG eCore: Dr. Donald R. Wagner is in his tenth year as Dean. He was the Director of the Honors College and Special programs for nine years and a faculty member for fifteen years prior.  Dr. Wagner has over thirty-four years experience combined as an administrator and a faculty member.   He earned a Ph.D. and a M.A. in Political Science.  He also holds faculty rank as a tenured, full professor.

Dean of the School of Nursing: Dr. Kathryn Grams is in her tenth year as an administrator. The School of Nursing was established in AY2009. Dr. Grams is in her second year as our first Dean of the School of Nursing. She was Chair of the Department of Nursing for the past eight years in addition to a faculty member for over ten years.  Dr. Grams has combined experience of over thirty-one years as a higher education administrator and a faculty member.  She earned a Ph.D. in Nursing Education and an M.N. in Adult Health. She also holds faculty rank as a tenured, full professor.
