3.3 Institutional Effectiveness

Comprehensive Standard:

3.3.1.2 The institution identifies expected outcomes, assesses the extent to which it achieves these outcomes, and provides evidence of improvement based on analysis of the results in each of the following areas: administrative support services. (Institutional Effectiveness)

Narrative:

Administrative support services at the University of West Georgia are provided through offices that support campus-wide initiatives or activity and through individual academic departments’ administrative offices. 

Campus-wide administrative support services are provided mainly through the President’s Office, the Vice President’s office for each division, and the departments or areas within the Division of Business and Finance and University Advancement [1] (see “Fact Book”, 2011-2012, pp. 18-20).

The President’s Office provides administrative support through the Office of Institutional Diversity, Ombuds, Institutional Research and Planning, Information Technology Services, Internal Audit, and the University General Counsel.

The Business and Finance Division provides administrative support to Budget Services, Campus Facilities and Planning, the University Controller, Human Resources, Internal Audit, University Police, and Business Auxiliary Services.

University Advancement provides administrative support to Development and Alumni Relations, Intercollegiate Athletics, University Communications and Marketing, and University Special Events.

The institution identifies expected outcomes, assesses the extent to which it achieves these outcomes, and provides evidence of improvement based on analysis of the results through Institutional Annual Reports.  Department chairs and department heads/directors, of Administrative Support services, are responsible for completing the Annual Report template at the end of each fiscal year.  

Once the program and divisional Annual Report Templates are submitted, the Department of Institutional Research and Planning prepares an institution-wide Annual Report of Institutional Progress that summarizes and highlights progress made by all university operations, including administrative support services (see the links below).

The 2009-2010 [2] and 2010-2011 [3] Annual Reports of Institutional Progress are available on the Institutional Research and Planning web site. Each report includes specific goals for each area and assessment results based on the goals and evidence of improvements based on the analysis of the results.

For further evidence of the University of West Georgia’s compliance with this principle in the area of administrative support, a summary of the 2011-2012 departmental goals, assessments and improvements based on the analysis of the results is included below [4]. The results for 2012-2013 were in development at the time of preparation for this report.

These documents provide evidence that administrative support areas at the University of West Georgia identify expected outcomes (departmental goals), assess the extent to which they achieve these outcomes, and provide evidence of improvements based on the analysis of the results.

The Assessment Summary for Administrative Support Areas 2011-2012 includes the areas with primary responsibility for providing administrative support services. As some areas/departments provide both administrative support and academic and student support, there is some overlap with principle 3.3.1.3.
