4. Federal Requirements
4.1 The institution evaluates success with respect to student achievement consistent with its mission. Criteria may include: enrollment data; retention, graduation, course completion, and job placement rates; state licensing examinations; student portfolios; or other means of demonstrating achievement of goals. (Student achievement)Statement of Compliance: In Compliance.
The University’s mission, values, and practices "culminate in educational experiences that foster the development of thoughtful and productive leaders and citizens who make a positive impact throughout an increasingly global society" .
The institution examines its positive impact/success with respect to student achievement by tracking student success after graduation through job placement, success in licensure, graduation, and course completion rates. The Office of Institutional Research and Planning is responsible for collecting, managing, and reporting these data. IRP publishes an annual Fact Book which, in addition to providing descriptive information about the institution, also presents data on graduation, retention and progression rates, distribution of grades, degrees conferred, total enrollment and credit hour production, and other information related to institutional effectiveness. See Reports on the Composition of Student Body , Degrees Conferred , Retention-Graduation , and Course Completion , , , .
In addition to these data, the success of UWG graduates in passing requisite licensure or qualification examinations and in obtaining employment is also routinely monitored. The following lists and describes these efforts:
Employment data on the University of West Georgia students are tracked through the Alumni Survey and the Graduating Senior Exit Survey. Both surveys are conducted periodically. Sample reports for both surveys are available , .
Students seek licensure at the state level upon completion of a number of programs. These include: NCLEX-RN, GACE, and CPA.
Georgia Board of Nursing NCLEX-RN is taken by the students who graduated from the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. For both the 2010 calendar year and the FY10 fiscal year, 79 of 85 UWG BSN graduates (93%) passed the licensing exam on their first attempt (see data ).
The Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) exam is taken by graduates interested in obtaining licensure to teach in Georgia. As can be seen in the appended materials, UWG graduates have high pass rates on most tests (30 tests in total). Note: pass rates are not reported for fewer than 10 test takers .
The CPA exam is taken by students who would like to pursue a career in accounting. The University of West Georgia pass rates were obtained through the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) website. NASBA publishes the results annually based on the previous year data .
