Our Mission
The primary mission of the Department of Special Education and Speech-Language Pathology is to prepare professional educators and other service providers who understand and appropriately use specific critical information and who can demonstrate skills and competencies needed for work with diverse groups of children with special needs.
- Our undergraduate programs enable students to acquire knowledge and competencies required of beginning teachers and service providers for working with children preschool through grade 12 in the area of mental retardation and/or speech-language pathology.
- Our graduate programs guide students in their refinement and advancement of knowledge and skills for effective service delivery to children preschool through grade 12 in interrelated special education and/or speech-language pathology.
- Our nondegree initial certification programs enable students to acquire knowledge and competencies required of beginning teachers and service providers for working with children preschool through grade 12 in the area of mental retardation, learning disabilities, or behavior disorders.
Programs include preparation for working with children who have behavior disorders, mental retardation, learning disabilities, and/or who have communication disorders. Speech-language pathology graduate students work with people from infancy through adulthood.
