Student Committees

Academic Affairs:

1. Work with the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Deans of each academic college
2. Organize and facilitate interactive communication between various academic departments and centers on campus
3. Act on all questions pertaining to academics, admissions, and financial aid
4. Inform SGA of issues and concerns that face students academically
5. Communicate and represent the academic interest of the student body to the senate
6. Distribute updated information pertaining to the academic colleges, divisions, centers, and programs on campus to the senate
7. Promote the academic success and excellence of the student body
8. Consider all matters concerning academic and instructional items and issues
9. Investigate all substantive student complaints against faculty members

Athletic/Intramural Issues:

1. Assist needs of athletic clubs on campus
2. Consider all matters and activities concerning athletics at UWG and student participation in athletic activities and events
3. Help implement the goals of the University with consideration for the expansion of the athletic programs
4. Encourage overall athletic spirit and support on campus

Diversity Affairs:


1. Promote diversity within the student body by supporting multicultural events that educate the student body
2. Work with the Student Services Division on diversity affairs
3. Communicate and represent the diversity issues of the student body to the senate
4. Work with the Dean of the Minority Affairs department
5. Investigate all substantive complaints of discrimination against all students

External Affairs:


1. Consider matters concerning the local government
2. Attend local city council and county commissioner meetings once a month
3. Administer a community service event, where all SGA members are required to participate
4. Lobby and build relationships with the local city/county/state officials
5. Work as a liaison between the student body and the local government
6. Be the voting delegate to the SAC of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia
7. Invite a guest speaker to at least one SGA meeting per month

Internal Affairs:


1. Oversee/review the internal business of the SGA including adherence or modifications to its Constitution and By-Laws, institutional procedures, and the like
2. Finalize all resolutions for presentation to the Student Congress including checking format, grammar, style, etcetera; and keep a record of the resolution once it has been presented to the Student Congress
3. Initiate and conduct a periodic "review" of SGA activity and events
4. Perform additional duties and other responsibilities assigned by the President
5. Work with the Executive Council in filling vacancies within the Student Congress
6. Shall regularly update the SGA web page

Programming:


1. Coordinate all special programs and activities of the SGA
2. Plan the SGA planning retreat with the Executive Council
3. Work with the other committees of the SGA to help plan their activities
4. Host the “Meet the Administration” open house during the fall term
5. Attend meetings of other student organizations in order to promote friendly relations and better represent students’ interests

Public Relations:


1. Be the central information disseminating body of the SGA
2. Prepare press releases to the campus media of SGA activities and issues which must be signed off on by the President
3. Update and maintain SGA bulletin boards in the University Community Center and the Campus Center
4. Shall plan and design, purchase materials for, create/have printed any posters, banners, flyers, signs, ads, public announcements
5. Collect campus literature and information (i.e. Campus Chronicle, West Georgian, etcetera) and prepare a report for the student congress during meeting announcements
6. Post SGA minutes outside the SGA office weekly
7. Appoint the SGA historian with approval of the Executive Council

Student Life and Issues:

1. Coordinate a “Student Concern Day” in order to better understand and represent student interests each semester
2. Regularly check the Student Concern boxes
3. Be responsible for bringing student concerns to SGA
4. Reply and act on student concern forms
5. Administer any survey(s) necessary
6. Attend meetings of other student organizations in reference to student issues to better represent student interests
7. Work with the Vice President of Student Services to increase interaction and communication between various campus organizations
8. Inform various campus organizations of SGA projects and programs
9. Communicate and represent the interests of campus organizations in order to the student congress
10. Attend meetings of other student organizations in order to promote friendly relations and better represent student interests
