Biography
José Luis Ortiz holds a MA in Hispanic Studies and a BA in Spanish from University of Illinois at Chicago. He joined the faculty of the University of West Georgia in August of 2007 as Instructor of Spanish. His area of interest is sociolinguistics, which examines the interaction between language use, and social factors in order to better understand processes that lead to language variation and language change.
He is a member of MLA and ACTFL for several years and a very competitive volleyball player. He is also a certified volleyball referee for the state of Georgia. During his personal time, he likes to read linguistic journals, play volleyball, and enjoys cooking.
