Julia Farmer received her AB in Spanish and Italian from Bryn Mawr College and her PhD in Romance Languages and Literatures from the University of California, Berkeley. Her primary research interests are in the area of Renaissance and baroque Spanish and Italian literature. She has taught Spanish language courses at all levels, as well as courses on medieval and Golden Age Spanish literature. She has published articles on Francis Petrarch and on the Spanish novelist Benito Prez de Galds, as well as collaborated on an edition of Lope de Vegas Los mrtires de Japn. She has presented at national and international conferences on authors such as St. Teresa de Avila, Mara de Zayas, and Cervantes. She is especially interested in the interrelationship between literature and the fields of politics and anthropology.
