B.S. Sociology
Declaration Requirements
Students must have cumulative GPA (including all transfer credit) of 2.0 at the time of the request to declare the major.
Learning Outcomes
Students completing the B.S. degree with a major in Sociology should:
- Be able to communicate (orally and in writing) how sociology contributes to an understanding of social reality.
- Understand theoretical and methodological approaches to description and interpretation.
- Understand basic concepts, perspectives, and their interpretive applications.
- Understand the nature of culture and social structure.
- Understand the reciprocal relationship between the individual and society.
- Understand the diversity of American society.
- Demonstrate an ability to think critically.

Show specific knowledge in one subfield of sociology.
Minor in Sociology
Minimum of 15 hours. Select 12-15 hours of Upper level sociology courses as well as SOCI 1101 (3 hours - mandatory).
Minor in Women's Studies
Select five courses from three different areas of study. A list of approved courses can be obtained from the coordinator of the program. For more information, please view the College of Arts & Sciences page on the Women's Studies minor.
Extra-curricular activities
Several student-run organizations are available for undergraduates who wish to become involved. We currently host the Sociology Club and the Sigma Phi Omega honor society.
