The Sociology Club

The Sociology Club of the University of West Georgia is a student led organization for sociology majors/minors and other students interested in the discipline. The purpose of the club is to promote intellectual and professional development, cultivate leadership abilities, encourage community service, and provide social activities. Alpha Kappa Delta, Sociology Honor Society

Alpha Kappa Delta was founded in 1920 and is dedicated to the ideal of Anthropon Katamanthanein Diakonesein ("To investigate humanity for the purpose of service"). The objective of this society is to promote an interest in the study of sociology, research of social problems, or other social and intellectual activities that will lead to improvement in the human condition. Only those students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the field of sociology are invited.

Alpha Phi Sigma, Criminology Honor Society

The Department of Criminology is home to Chi Omega Phi, the local chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma National Criminal Justice Honor Society. Alpha Phi Sigma was begun in 1941 to recognized scholarly achievement among criminology and criminal justice students within American universities and colleges. Membership in Alpha Phi Sigma is limited to criminology majors and minors. Undergraduates must have completed a minimum of three semesters of coursework, twelve semester hours of criminology courses, and obtained an overall grade point average of 3.2 and a criminology grade point average of 3.2. In addition, to be eligible for membership a student must rank in the top 35% of his or her class. Graduate students must have completed a minimum of twelve hours of criminology coursework and obtained an overall grade point average of 3.4 and a criminology grade point average of 3.4. Nominations to the society occur twice per academic year. The chapter advisor reviews the academic record of each prospective candidate and notifies those nominated by letter. Lambda Alpha Epsilon, Criminal Justice Club

Delta Phi is the University of West Georgia’s chapter of the American Criminal Justice Association’s Lambda Alpha Epsilon.  LAE offers opportunities for professional development, educational enhancement, leadership, and social interaction.  Membership is open to criminology majors/minors and persons employed or volunteering in criminal justice.  Delta Phi seeks to participate in activities such as educational/diversity programming, criminal justice related community service, and social events.  You can learn more about LAE at: http://www.acjalae.org/.  Interested students should contact Dr. Mike Johnson at (678) 839-6330 or ljohnson@westga.edu.
