Dr. Carolyn Sloane Sawtell is an Assistant Professor of Sociology. She earned her Masters and Doctoral degree from the Florida State University in 2008. Her background is quite varied: she holds a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Rollins College, a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of Central Florida, as well as a Graduate Certificate in Domestic Violence from The University of Central Florida. During her time at Florida State University she was a volunteer for Refuge House (a domestic and sexual violence shelter) as a SANE Advocate and Community Educator, a liaison for the Center for Teaching and Learning, as well as an advisor for a Greek Organization. Her teaching and research interests include gender and violence, inequality (race, class, and gender), social psychology, mental health, and education. Her most recent research examines the impact of the victim-perpetrator relationship on rape victims’ mental well-being.
