About Us

The Sustainability Council at the University of West Georgia

The UWG Sustainability Council was formed by faculty and students in 2012 to provide more structured and targeted efforts to organize sustainability initiatives on campus and in the classroom. The purpose of the SC at the University of West Georgia is to identify, share, and promote sustainability activities and initiatives on the UWG campus and in the community. The UWG SC serves as a clearinghouse for ideas that pertain to sustainability initiatives on the UWG campus.

UWG is committed to the concept and practice of sustainability. Sustainability at UWG  refers to a commitment to engage in practices that meet our current needs without  compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own. A sustainable campus/community is one that offers concerted reductions in the impact it has on the natural environment, both in terms of its resource consumption and waste production.

The UWG SC helds open meetings monthly (or when needed) on campus. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Dr Gerhardt at hgerhard@westga.edu.
