Policies & Procedures

Policies and procedures concerning the Learning Support Program have been established in accordance with the appropriate academic and administrative agencies of the institution and the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia.

Because UWG no longer offers learning support coursework, all applicants to the university must meet minimum criteria established by the Admissions Office.  If COMPASS placement testing is required to determine admissibility, the applicant must score at or above the cutoff scores in order to be eligible for admission.

  1. Applicants to the University of West Georgia may be required to take the COMPASS Exam after a review of their academic record and SAT/ACT scores by the Admissions Office.
  2. Students taking the COMPASS entry test must score a minimum of 74 on the Reading Test, 60 on the Writing Test, and 37 on the Mathematics Test to exempt Learning Support courses.
  3. Applicants who do not meet admission requirements are encouraged to begin their academic program at another accredited institution, take and exit any required learning support courses, and earn grades of "C" or higher in the transferrable core curriculum classes related to the learning support area.  For example, persons required to take learning support ENGL 0099 must not only exit the LS class and pass the COMPASS exit test but also earn a grade of "C" or higher in the transferrable ENGL 1101.  Those with the learning support math requirement would have to exit MATH 0099, pass the COMPASS exit test, and earn a grade of "C" or higher in the transferrable MATH 1111 (College Algebra) class.
