Announcements:
• In an effort to provide a faculty/staff eating area that would be centrally located, away from students, and accessible to those who would rather bring their own lunch or just meet to visit, the UWG Social Club has reserved UCC 210 every Wednesday through the end of the semester, from 11:30-1:30. There is no agenda, so feel free to come and go as your schedule permits.
Bring a friend and either your bag lunch or something from the food court! See you Wednesdays, 11:30-1:30 in UCC 210. Come, [even in the] rain or shine!
• The University of West Georgia Department of Art is pleased to announce the annual Juried Student Exhibition featuring exceptional visual art produced by current UWG students.
The exhibition will run from February 21- March 14, 2013. Awards will be announced at the Opening Reception on February 21 from 5:30-7:30pm. Prizes include first, second and third place in 2D and 3D categories as well as honorable mentions. The exhibition is located in the Bobick Gallery and Gallery 2 in the Humanities Building. All events are free and open to the public.
This year’s juror is Mrs. Laura Lieberman, Executive Director at the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County. Lieberman has been editor-in-chief of Art Papers, exhibited works in both Georgia and Washington, D.C., and has consulted, published, been guest curator, and has been a juror all across the United States.
The Bobick Gallery and Gallery 2 are open Monday-Friday: 9am to 5pm.
• DineWest brings Kellogg’s on Campus today from noon until 2pm. Stop by the Z-6 or P.O.D. Center Pointe for free samples.
Make a lunch date for Thursday at the Grand Re-Opening of our Sushi and Hot Bowls in the UCC Wolves Den. There will be free sushi samples from 1-3pm, plus receive a free fountain drink with any sushi purchase.
Thank you so much for your assistance with the 13th Annual Mardi Gras of Majors event, which was held recently. Because of you, the event was most definitely a success. Kudos to you and your staff for a job well done!
Additionally, student participation was also fantastic! We are happy to report a phenomenal student turnout, with nearly 500 in attendance!
In reference to next year, we are planning on hosting the event, possibly again in February. The exact date will be announced soon!
Once again, many thanks to you all and have a fantastic week!

• Sixteen UWG professors from the College of Education and the College of Science and Mathematics collaborated to receive eight Teacher Quality grants from the University of Georgia. UGA administers these U.S. Department of Education funds for the professional development of teachers in disciplines including language arts, mathematics, reading, science and social studies.
The Teacher Quality grants give teachers an opportunity to increase their depth of knowledge in a particular discipline, and, in effect, the grants will have a positive impact on teaching and student learning. The grants may be used to incorporate technology, novel assessment strategies or innovative teaching practices. In total, 71 grant proposals were submitted and 35 were funded.
