This week is National Eating Disorders Awareness Week with events being held, called the "Freedom to...Challenge".

During NED Awareness Week (February 24 - March 2), Health Services/Health Education is collaborating with Counseling & Career Development Center for events challenging everyone on campus to give themselves "Freedom to...":

- Pass by a mirror or window of a shop without critiquing their looks, body shape or weight

- Focus on health and wellness as opposed to the size of their jeans or a number on the scale

-Exercise for enjoyment and health as opposed to feeling obsessed

-Choose to not participate in negative self-talk regarding body image and looks no matter how easy it is to get in the cycle

-Help others who are dealing with eating disorders and body image issues so that they can find freedom and live life with positive body image, confidence and passion

The "Freedom to...Challenge" includes the following events:

Monday, February 25 Kick-off
Event: "Mirror Image"
Details: Peer Educators under Health Education will put positive messages and quotes in restrooms across campus promoting self-acceptance and love of one's self and body

Wednesday, February 27
Event: "Freedom to Be...Messages"
Time: 11 am-1 pm
Location: TLC Lobby
Details: UWG students will make a collage by choosing pre-printed messages and positive images from magazines, promoting positive self-image and dispelling the "model image". Students are also encouraged to bring their own images to this event for the collage, that promote positive self- esteem. Also, this event will feature an interactive exercise students can participate in to show the role of perception in body image issues and eating disorders. Information on eating disorders will also be handed out.
The staff of Health Services and Counseling & Career Development Center encourages you to spread the word about "Freedom to...Challenge" this week!

Sessions are limited to 10 people and will be held in Row Hall, room 319. Please register to reserve your seat. Please note, this training is for the current paper PAR form only.
