Announcements:

The Philosophy Program is sponsoring the thirteenth annual Meeting of the Minds. This program is a conversation between students who are posing as famous philosophers. Philosophers represented are:

Aristotle played by Alex Richardson
Boethius played by Carine LaFortune
Mary Wollstonecraft played by Savannah Grizzard
Friedrich Nietzsche played by Joshua Moore, and
Simone DeBeauvoir played by Lindy Oller.
The discussion is moderated by Caroline Money.

This year's topic is “Is There Meaning in Human Existence?”

The students themselves have written a script and will perform the panel discussion tonight at 7 pm in Kathy Cashen Hall. Following the presentation there will be a question and answer period. The event is free and open to everyone.

A retirement reception for John Roessler will be held Friday, March 29, from 3-5 pm in the Coliseum. Please come by to wish John a happy retirement.

ARE YOU AWARE OF THE VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN ACT (VAWA) OF 1994? DO YOU KNOW THAT VAWA SAVES LIVES AND MONEY? DO YOU KNOW THAT THE NUMBER OF INDIVIDUALS KILLED BY AN INTIMATE PARTNER HAS DECREASED BY 34% FOR WOMEN AND 57% FOR MEN? WHAT ABOUT CAMPUS VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN?

The Center for Diversity and Inclusion is pleased to have Dr. Debra Houry speak on the topic "Violence against women: translating a health provider's perspective to societal implications". Debra Houry, MD, MPH, is Vice-Chair for Research and Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine and in the Department of Behavioral Science and Health Education and Department of Environmental Health at the Rollins School of Public Health. She serves as President-Elect for the Society for Advancement of Violence and Injury Research, the Past-President of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, and Emory's University Senate President Elect. The program is scheduled for Thursday, March 28, at 7 pm in the Campus Center Ballroom 108.2. Co-sponsors are UWG Women’s Studies Program and Health Education. It is free and open to the public. The Department of University Communications and Marketing will hold an Open House on Thursday, April 4, from 3-4:30 pm. Come see our new and renovated facilities and enjoy light refreshments.
