One of the bright spots of the 2010 season for the West Georgia baseball team was senior shortstop Justin Smith, who was named to the 2010 All-Gulf South Conference First Team in a release from conference officials.
Smith's selection ends a one-year drought for the Wolves on the All-GSC team, as no UWG player was named All-Conference in 2009. He joins Davan Abney (2007), Ron Riddle (2002) and Frederick Brown (2001) as West Georgia shortstops to be named to the All-GSC First Team.
"Justin is very deserving of this award," said head coach Skip Fite. "He was one of our most consistent players throughout the year and was definitely our Team MVP."
Batting from the third spot in the order for most of the season, Smith was third on the team in batting average at .340 with 19 doubles and a team-leading 42 RBI. He was fifth in the GSC in conference-only batting average, hitting a cool .466 in GSC games.
