The University of West Georgia recently held a reception to honor the family of Dr. Michael Raper, former professor of economics, and their contribution to the Dr. Michael D. Raper Memorial Scholarship.
Raper, who was a member of the Department of Economics from 1984 to 2005, was a foremost expert on the West Georgia economy. Raper especially enjoyed teaching the business statistics course required of all business majors. He was known for his keen sense of humor and for the individual attention he devoted to his students.
“Mike Raper was an outstanding teacher who was truly loved by his students, colleagues, friends and family,” said Dr. David Boldt, professor of economics and chair of the Department of Economics. “The Michael D. Raper Scholarship in economics is a lasting memorial in honor of his commitment to the students of the University of West Georgia.”
This scholarship is given annually to an outstanding student majoring in economics. They must also have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
