Noted Publisher to Speak at Graduation

Neely Young, an award-winning columnist, editor, publisher and entrepreneur, will be the commencement speaker at the UWG fall graduation ceremony on Dec. 12, at 9:30 a.m. in the Coliseum. Young graduated from the University of Georgia and served as editor, and publisher for various Georgia newspapers. In 1986 he became CEO of Morris Newspaper Corp., which owns 40 newspapers in six states. He later went on to form his own company, Southern Publishing Company that consisted of 13 newspapers before the company was sold to Community Newspaper Holdings.

Young has served as president of the Georgia Press Association, Associated Press of Georgia and chairman of the Georgia Press Education Foundation. He currently owns Georgia Trend, a 50,000-circulation business and political magazine published in all 159 counties in Georgia.
