Just because the academic year is winding down and classes are over does not mean every UWG student is taking it easy. The UWG Hit Men, State Champions of Intramural Flag Football, will compete in two national tournaments in December and January.

Just because the academic year is winding down and classes are over does not mean every UWG student is taking it easy. The UWG Hit Men, State Champions of Intramural Flag Football, will compete in two national tournaments in December and January. The Hit Men, part of the Department of Campus Recreation, own a remarkable record after winning their second consecutive National Intramural Recreation Sports Association State Flag-Football Championship this semester.

The 15-member team competed against Kennesaw State, Southern Polytechnic and Georgia Southern Universities, Georgia Technical Institute and Georgia Perimeter College to take first place.

The Hit Men hope to raise enough funds to continue their winning streak in the American Collegiate Intramural Sports tournament at the University of New Orleans on December 28-31 and the NIRSA at the University of South Florida in Tampa on January 3-5. Sponsorships and contributions are being accepted for travel and living expenses through December 24.

The intramural team also competed in Pensacola in the ACIS Regional Tournament last month and missed first place by one point and two overtimes against last year’s national championship team from the University of South Florida.
