The Department of Art plans to create a Sculpture on Campus Program, an annual national juried exhibition of sculptural works placed at sites throughout the 645-acre campus.
The art department’s program will provide the greater west Georgia community an opportunity to appreciate contemporary sculpture from around the region, experience open dialogue on global cultural issues, enhance awareness about the arts, and serve as a teaching tool and extended classroom for art students.
Building on the tradition of the university presenting community programming (such as performing arts), through this public art program, the campus has the potential to become an arts hub for the region. The Sculpture on Campus Program can provide the university and its community partners a mechanism to develop a comprehensive system of programs that expands understanding of the capacity of the arts to attract and retain students and businesses, enhance tourism, promote individual well-being, beautify the environment, and invigorate West Georgia communities.
