A nostalgic weekend of homecoming activities is planned for University of West Georgia alumni who will come to campus to celebrate the many firsts recorded in the history of the university. The three-day event begins on Friday, October 23, and continues through Sunday.Enthusiasm over the opening of University Stadium has fueled a momentum for the first ever Homecoming “Home at Last” football game to be played on campus.

Homecoming at the University of West Georgia will be special this year as it is celebrated in University Stadium for the first time. “Home at Last” has come true for UWG alumni, students, faculty, staff and community supporters. To recognize the valuable contributions from approximately 20 major donors to the Athletics Complex, a donor recognition ceremony will take place during the pre-game ceremony beginning at 1:45 p.m. prior to the 2 p.m. kick-off against West Alabama.

Come early to the stadium and enjoy tailgating with the National Alumni Association under the big blue and white tent. Enjoy free hot dogs and reminiscing with other alumni and former faculty and staff prior to the pre-game ceremony.
“Alumni, friends, supporters and fans are encouraged to participate in a down-home weekend of reunions, tailgating, receptions, football and entertainment,” said Christina Camp ’03, Homecoming committee chair.

A myriad of weekend activities begins on Friday as classmates from the ‘30s and ‘40s reunite for their traditional luncheon. Alumni from the classes of 1934, 1939, 1944 and 1949 will also be recognized for milestone reunions.

The annual Homecoming golf outing, now in its third year, is planned for Friday afternoon and is open to all alumni. The ever-popular Alumni Awards Presentation Dinner is sure to be an exciting Friday evening event in The Coliseum as well as the annual African American Alumni (AAA) reunion’s networking social.

The After Party at The Little Hawaiian Seafood Grill and Tiki Lounge will cap Friday’s activities. All alumni, reunion groups and friends who would like to continue visiting and socializing in a comfortable late night ambiance are welcome.

Saturday’s homecoming schedule offers a wide array of entertainment options. The day kicks off with the President’s Breakfast on the front lawn of the Alumni House. Hosted by Dr. Beheruz N. Sethna, this complimentary event unites alumni, fans and community supporters as they await the parade.

There will be a Campus Walking Tour, hosted by the AAA beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Row Hall. Following the parade, physics alumni will gather at Boyd Hall and feast at a complimentary cookout.

Tailgating at University Stadium on Lovvorn Road will also be a popular activity this Homecoming. Bring your own lawn chairs, food and beverages and experience the pregame excitement that will energize the 2 p.m. rivalry between the Wolves and the West Alabama Tigers.

Closing out Saturday’s activities will be the Golden Alumni Society Reunion celebrating the class of 1959’s milestone reunion, Homecoming dinners hosted by Kappa Phi and Kappa Sigma and the Black Student Alliance annual Step Show.

The weekend of activities will culminate with an inspirational service on Sunday morning, held in the Technology–enhanced Learning Center, room 1305. Hosted by the AAA, all alumni are invited to attend and hear Robert Johnson, the guest speaker.
