Economic Breakfast Coming to UWG

The University of West Georgia will host the 2009 Economic Forecast Breakfast on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 7:30 a.m. in the Campus Center Ballroom at the Carrollton campus. Reservations are required in advance with a deadline of Friday, October 23.

The annual event will focus on current conditions and the outlook for the national, state and local economies. The keynote speakers at the breakfast will be Dr. Donald Ratajczak, Regents Professor Emeritus at Georgia State University and consulting economist for Morgan Keegan Investment Banking Group, and Dr. William "Joey" Smith, assistant professor of economics at UWG.

The breakfast is widely attended with more than 300 participants expected this year.  Participants at the conference will receive a copy of the 2009 West Georgia Regional Outlook publication.

A former director of the Forecasting Center at GSU, Ratajczak is a consultant to leading businesses and government agencies and writes a weekly economic commentary for Morgan Keegan.

In his presentation, Ratajczak will shed light on current economic conditions and will discuss the economic outlook for the state of Georgia, the U.S. economy and financial markets.

Smith will review current economic conditions and outlook for the West Georgia region. Before teaching at UWG, Smith specialized in the study of growth patterns in metro Atlanta and in the empirical analysis of state tax policy at the Fiscal Research Center at GSU.

The Forecast Breakfast is sponsored by the UWG Department of Economics, the Richards College of Business, the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, BB&T, Southwire and Tanner Health System.

Cosponsors include the Bank of North Georgia, Carroll EMC, MetroBank, Michael Stone of Edward Jones, Systems and Methods, Inc., Tisinger Vance, P.C., and VALIC-Cliff England, Financial Advisor.
