The acting vice president for Academic Affairs at the University of West Georgia is now Dr. Sandra Stone, formerly the interim director of the Applied Research Center at Southern Polytechnic State University.
Stone replaced Dr. Thomas J. Hynes, UWG vice president for academic affairs, after he assumed the position of acting president of Clayton State University.
Stone served in this same capacity at UWG before she accepted the role of Vice Chancellor for Academic Planning and Programs at the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. She then became Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives before moving to Southern Poly.
Dr. Beheruz N. Sethna, UWG president, is delighted to welcome Stone back to the university.
“Dr. Stone brings an enormous amount of expertise and experience to the position, including firsthand knowledge of the university and the University System of Georgia,” he said.
Stone began teaching at UWG in 1996 as assistant professor in the Department of Sociology/Criminology, was promoted to associate professor in 2000 and professor in 2005.
In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Stone also served as associate vice president for Academic Affairs from 2002-2006.
“I am delighted and honored to have been invited back to UWG to serve as the acting VP of Academic Affairs during Dr. Hynes' absence,” Stone said. “From a review of the new strategic plan, it looks to be an exciting and busy year ahead, and I am pleased to be a part of this effort. Despite the current budget challenges, with everyone working together, we can accomplish much to be proud of.”
