Officials from the University of West Georgia remain in contact with state and local public health departments regarding the outbreak of the H1N1 influenza virus (commonly known as swine flu) and will notify the campus of any changes or recommendations coming from state agencies.
The university is monitoring the campus for any signs of the virus and has a well developed response plan that, if necessary, it will implement in coordination with county and state agencies.
The states and federal government have stockpiled large quantities of the two anti-viral medications that have been shown to be effective against the H1N1 virus strain that has spread to 13 states.
Georgia has set up a local 24-hour hotline for people seeking information about the virus: 770-830-2828. More information on the outbreak can be found at http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/.
