The Department of Publications and Printing at the University of West Georgia has been recognized by the Printing Industry Association of Georgia with seven Print Excellence Awards in the state’s annual printing quality competition.
The recognitions include three Best of Category plaques awarded for “Just the Facts,” a mini-publication printed for the Office of Institutional Research and Planning, the 2008 Wolves Football Media Guide and the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts seasonal mailer.
Four other publications that received Awards of Excellence are the President’s 2008 holiday card, Wolves Fall Sports poster, the Faculty and Staff Directory and the Georgia Highlands College student literary magazine, Red Kimono.
Staff members involved in creating the winning work include Eddie Rogers, printing services supervisor; Keith Harris and Carlos Olvera, senior offset pressmen; and Debby Holcombe and Teresa Pyron, graphic artists.
The university print shop produces a limited amount of printing for schools, civic and government organizations, and non-profits. The university replaced a two-color offset printing press with a new six-unit press that speeds the offset printing process. As a result, the print shop is able to offer more press time to qualified off-campus entities.
No commercial work orders are accepted because the print shop does not compete with local printers. The full-service campus print shop is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and is located on Pub and Print Drive on campus. Schools, non-profits and government entities interested in the limited printing opportunities for off-campus concerns may call 678-839-6483.
