In observance of Human Rights Awareness Month the University of West Georgia will host Carl Wilkens, former head of the Adventist Development and Relief Agency International in Rwanda, on Thursday, April 23, at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center Ballroom.
Wilkens will talk about the genocide in Rwanda in 1994 and his experience as the only American that remained in the country after the genocide began. Frontline's “Ghosts of Rwanda” and “The Few Who Stayed: Defying Genocide,” an American Radio Works documentary that aired on NPR, featured Wilkens. The office of the Vice President for University Advancement, office of the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Honors College, the office of the Dean of Arts and Sciences and the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies are sponsoring the event.
