Faith and Science Discussion to be Held

Thursday, September 30, 2010

The College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of English and Philosophy at the University of West Georgia are sponsoring an “Inter-religious Panel on Faith and Science” on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Kathy Cashen Recital Hall on the UWG campus.

The discussion, free and open to the public, will feature four UWG professors from the areas of chemistry, biology and physics who will talk about the relation of faith and science. One popular view suggests that one cannot affirm both religious claims and scientific truth. However, others disagree, believing that both can be taken seriously. The panel will explore how scientists of faith deal with issues that arise when the two subjects converge.

Panelists will include Dr. Megumi Fujita of chemistry, Dr. Javier Hasbun of physics, Dr. Farooq Khan of chemistry and Dr. S. Swamy-Mruthinti of biology.
