The University of West Georgia Department of Music presents its annual Faculty Concert in support of the Annual Fund on Monday, October 11 at 8:15 p.m.
Music faculty will perform in recognition of patrons who support the university through their contributions to music or to the general fund.
Admission is free and the community is invited to attend. There will be a donor reception prior to the concert in the lobby of the Townsend Center.
The concert will feature a variety of genre and musical selections from composers ranging from George Frideric Handel to Thelonius Monk.
This year’s concert features the premier of "Wednesday Nights" composed by UWG music faculty member, Sorrel Hays.
Hays will perform the piece on the piano. He will be accompanied by music faculty members Luan Mueller, clarinet, and Peter Mueller, trombone.
The concert will also introduce new faculty member Annie Stevens on percussion. She will perform two pieces for marimba, “The Offering” by Michael Burritt and “Marimba Spiritual” by Minoru Miki. West Georgia music students Adam Wolfe, Tyrone Small and Matthew Zimmerman will accompany her.
Other performers familiar to the audience will include: Larry Frazier, bass; John and Linda Li-Bleuel, saxophone and piano; and Carol Gingerich and Elizabeth Kramer, piano and violin.
Daniel Bakos, accompanied by music students Joel Jackson and Erin Williams, will conclude the concert. They will perform: “Breakfast Wine” by Randy Aldcroft; “Body and Soul” by Johnny Green; and “Well You Needn’t” by Thelonius Monk.
