Auditions for University Concert Bands

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

The University of West Georgia Bands would like to invite all students with instrumental experience (wind, brass and percussion) to audition for placement into the concert band.  The department fields two full concert bands during the spring semester.

The very best students, who are selected via this audition process, are placed in the Wind Symphony, West Georgia’s the top-performing band.

The Wind Symphony will meet in the spring on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.  Students not selected are encouraged to join the Symphonic Band, which meets at the same time on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Students may participate in the Symphonic Band without an audition.

Both bands play two concerts in the spring, one each in March and April.  Students invited to participate in the Wind Symphony will also have opportunities to play an additional concert this December and to tour with the ensemble to perform at local schools in the spring.

This year's guest soloists will include: Dr. Amanda Pepping, professor of trumpet at Georgia State University; Mr. Adrian Sandí, clarinet instructor at the University of Rochester (NY); Prof. Annie Stevens, professor of percussion at UWG; and Dr. John Bleuel, professor of saxophone at UWG.

Audition packets are available on the 3rd floor of the Humanities Building.  Auditions will be held during the final week of October.  Please contact Dr. Cale Self, Director of Bands, at tcself@westga.edu or 678-839-6268 with any inquiries regarding the audition process or the band department in general.
