Fine Dining and beautiful music come together in the ballroom of Sunset Hills Country Club as The University of West Georgia Department of Music and Sunset Hills Country Club present the UWG Opera Workshop in the seventh annual A Taste of Opera on Thursday, November 4, at 7:00 P.M.
Dinner will be served at 7:00, followed by concert performances of popular lyric theatre numbers by student performers directed by Dr. Larry Frazier. Dessert will be served at intermission, and the evening will conclude with music that has achieved world-wide popularity.
This event is open to all. Admission, which includes dinner, dessert, coffee, tea and water and the musical performance, is $17.00, all inclusive. Reservations and prepayment by Monday, November 1 are necessary and can be made by calling Dr. Frazier at 678-839-6265, Bobbie Emmons in the Music Office at 678-839-6263 or any member of the Opera Workshop.
Musical numbers include world famous choruses from Verdi’s Il Trovatore and Nabucco; a trio from The Mikado, one of the most popular operettas by Gilbert and Sullivan; a trio from Richard Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier, a quartet from Beethoven’s only opera—Fidelio and several exciting selections from Mozart’s Don Giovanni, presented as a musical appetizer for the upcoming full production of this work by the UWG Opera Workshop, in March, 2011. The evening will conclude with two popular selections from Lehar’s The Merry Widow.
