Local guitarist Harry Nelson will perform a recital of classical guitar music on Monday, Nov. 8 at 8:15 pm at the University of West Georgia's Kathy Cashen Recital Hall in the first floor of the Humanities building.
The program is free and open to the public.
Nelson has performed in a number of local venues including the Harmony for Healing Program in the Atrium at Tanner Hospital and the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center.
He also performs regularly at Sunny Side Café on Rome Street in Carrollton.
The recital will include pieces ranging from Baroque to Modern in style, and will include works by Bach, Scarlatti, Villa-Lobos, and Brouwer among others.
The recital will feature the well known tremolo piece, Recuerdos de la Alhambra by Terrega, and the flamenco style Leyenda: Asturias by Albéniz as well as several popular modern pieces.
Pieces by 20th century composers will include the lulling Julia Florida – Barcarola by Barrios and a set of three pieces by the contemporary composer, Leo Brouwer.
Brouwer’s Danza Caracteristica is a rhythmically intense mix of the composer’s African and Cuban folk style influences and will be performed along with the soothing Berceuse (lullaby) and the equally intense, but subtle Les Yeux Sorciers (Bewitching Eyes).
