The University of West Georgia is still celebrating the remarkable winning streak of the UWG Cheer coed team after the squad won its eighth consecutive national title.
The community can watch how the “Eight in a Row” Cheer champions wowed the judges on Sunday, Feb. 22, at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN2. An encore is scheduled in March.
The cheerleaders will also be on the home court for the last time this season on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at The Coliseum in Carrollton.
Women and men’s basketball games are scheduled at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.
Scott Brown, the UWG Cheer coach and a national Cheer champ a few times over, said it is not the win but the journey.
“Every year, I tell the team this is their first year competing for the title,” said Brown. “It is true. This isn’t the same team we had last year. Seniors graduate and freshman join. It is a good way to keep perspective.”
Universal Cheerleaders Association, an organization founded in 1974, sponsors the annual national competition. The NCAA, the authority for all college athletics, regulates college cheerleading.
