The University of West Georgia will host “Broken Glass,” a senior student exhibit by Michelle Lawrence from Monday, Dec. 8, through Friday, Dec. 12, in the second floor gallery of the Humanities Building.
A closing reception with the artist is scheduled at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12. The exhibit and reception are free and the community is invited to attend.
Lawrence, an Austell resident, is inspired by words and sounds to create art, rather than visuals like most of her colleagues. Topics that compel Lawrence to debate create the subject matter for her art pieces.
“My work becomes a speech or dissertation about the things I observe and desire to comment on,” said Lawrence. “My hope is that my artwork provides a mental stimulus in the viewer that does not passively conform to my ideas, but rather challenge the ideas he or she has always been fed.”
Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and by appointment. For more information, call 678-839-6521 or e-mail Lawrence at firstname.lastname@example.org.
