The A DAY for West Georgia campaign culminates on A DAY, Thursday, Oct. 16, with more than two months of community support and service. An A DAY breakfast and an A DAY Victory Celebration is scheduled for donors and supporters of the longest running scholarship campaign at UWG.
The A DAY breakfast is scheduled at 8:30 a.m. in the Food Services Building (Z-6) for volunteer teams who will collect donations from businesses and residents throughout the day.
A Victory Celebration is planned on the Alumni House front lawn at 6:30 p.m. where volunteers and supporters of the campaign will dine together and learn the final tally of the fundraising drive.
Begun in 1983 and traditionally held on the third Thursday in October, A DAY is an integral component of the university’s Annual Fund. This year’s theme, “Fulfilling the Vision,” proudly commemorates the 26th anniversary of the University of West Georgia’s community campaign that has given thousands of students the means to excel in higher education.
Both A DAY Chair Jay Gill, president of the River City Bank, and co-chair Leonard Woolsey, publisher of the Times Georgian, have long supported the university with substantial financial and volunteer contributions.
Woolsey said that this campaign has helped the community and university students in countless ways.
“UWG gives to our community in ways not easily measured simply with a financial tabulation,” said Woolsey. “It is my desire to be there to help West Georgia continue the great work it does in making our community such a special place to call home.”
Woolsey said his first priority is to continue building upon the previous successes of the campaign.
“This important effort experiences widespread support by the community and serves as a testament to the inherent impact the University of West Georgia plays in our lives,” said Woolsey.
Contributions support student scholarships, faculty and staff development programs and undergraduate research. New contributions are welcome throughout the year.
