The Creative Writing Program at the University of West Georgia will begin its 2008-09 Reading Series with poetry readings by acclaimed poets Jon Tribble and Allison Joseph on Thursday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. in the Kathy Cashen Recital Hall of the Humanities Building. A book signing will immediately follow the event. The reading is free and the community is invited to attend.
Both writers have received significant recognition for their work. Tribble was awarded the 2001 Campbell Corner Poetry Contest and Joseph received the 1992 John C. Zacharis First Book Award. Tribble and Joseph are married to one another and teach at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
“Aside from being wonderful poets, both have extensive editorial experience,” said Chad Davidson, associate professor of English and Creative Writing Program coordinator. “They can offer poignant advice to aspiring writers hoping to publish at the national level.”
Tribble and Joseph’s writing and editing experience includes managing and editing the “Crab Orchard Review,” a literary journal published by the Department of English at Southern Illinois. Tribble is the managing editor of the journal as well as the series editor of the Crab Orchard Award Series in Poetry and Joseph serves as the editor and poetry editor of the publication.
