The Board of Regents gave a thumbs up to the University of West Georgia’s plans for an Athletic Complex after approving a lease agreement between the University System of Georgia and the University of West Georgia Real Estate Foundation.
The agreement is a final hurdle for administrators and opens the door to begin construction on the newest UWG project. The agreement will allow the purchase of bonds to build a football stadium, practice fields, softball and soccer facilities and other academic and athletic services.
The excitement is palpable, said Dr. Andrew J. Leavitt, executive director of the University of West Georgia Foundation, Inc.
“We are now ready to proceed with construction of the new complex,” said Leavitt. “Though we must continue to raise funds to take us over the top for this project. We are looking forward to breaking ground and will continue to work hard to bring in more supporters to insure the project is fully funded.”
The $30 million complex is in its final design phase and will be built on 250 acres located off Lovvorn Road with a tentative completion date of the stadium for fall 2009. Plans for a November groundbreaking ceremony are underway. For more information, call 678-839-3962 or visit http://www.westga.edu/~stadium/.
