The West Georgia co-ed and all-girl cheerleading squads gave UWG something to yell about, winning championships this month in Florida at national competitions.
The coed squad, after a two-year hiatus from the top of the UCA Nationals, returned to the top of the podium, winning the 2011 championship. The Wolves won eight straight titles in the last decade, with the most recent championship coming in 2008.
This year, the Wolves were the top team heading into Nationals after the Entry Tape evauations. UWG won head-to-head with schools like Ouachita Baptist, Columbus State, Southern Indiana and Frostburg State, among others.
The all-girl squad also returned the UCA Championship to Carrollton, claiming its first championship since the 2008 Nationals.
The Wolves won three straight titles from 2006-2008, but came home without the hardware in each of the last two seasons. This year, UWG went to Orlando for the 2011 Nationals as the second-ranked squad after the annual tape evaluations.
In the primary performance, the Wolves claimed the top spot over 13 other Division II schools, including Slippery Rock, Northern Kentucky, Kutztown and Angelo State.
