Wolves Football Coach Darryl Dickey will start up the old tradition of an April scrimmage football game to introduce campus and community to the new UWG football team. The fun begins on Saturday, April 19, at 1:30 p.m. on the Observatory Field. The event is free and the community is invited to attend.
The combined support of private fundraising and an approved student fee have generated $24 million out of the proposed $29 million Athletic Complex project. UWG faculty and staff are contributing to the effort and the Faculty/Staff fundraising drive culminates with the Wolves Spring Scrimmage on April 19.
Coach Daryl Dickey invites faculty and staff to see the initial efforts of the 2008 Wolves football team beginning at noon on the Observatory Field with members of the UWG Booster Club grilling hotdogs and the scrimmage kickoff at 1:30 p.m.
At halftime, departing 2007 seniors, members of the 2008 signing class and former players will be recognized.
Dickey has been impressed with the enthusiasm and positive commitment to smart growth that he has experienced since arriving on campus.
“Rarely have I seen the student body of an institution willingly take such a hands-on role in an effort to assist their administrators with the improvement of campus facilities,” Dickey wrote recently to faculty and staff members.
“My experience in coaching has taught me the importance of advance preparation,” he said. “Let’s join together in preparing for the many good things that lie ahead for the university so we can say we were an integral part of this great effort.”
Frank Pritchett, associate executive director for alumni relations and annual giving, will have the latest artist’s renderings of the complex, along with gift and pledge cards, available at the scrimmage.
There are several giving options available, including the Match-A-Student plan of a one-time gift of $120 or pledging $120 per year for multiple years. Naming opportunities still exist and information is available by contacting Dr. Andrew Leavitt, associate vice president for Development and Alumni Relations.
Contributions or pledges to the stadium campaign can be made at any time by cash, check or payroll deduction by contacting the Office of Development at ext. 96582.
