Move over Stomp and Blue Man Group, there is a better show in town at the University of West Georgia at the fifth annual Night of Percussion on Wednesday, April 23, at 8:15 p.m. in the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts. Unforgettable music and visuals make this an exciting event not to be missed.
The evening will present three of West Georgia’s talented percussion ensembles: The Percussion Class Ensemble, the UWG Concert Percussion Ensemble and the award- winning UWG Jazz Percussion Group.
The Class Ensemble is a group of students and non-percussionists that will open the program performing their class project. The Concert Percussion Ensemble will follow with works by Lynn Glassock, Eric Saite and Hans Zimmer. Both ensembles will perform a number of diverse pieces that range from the classics to modern and from solo to group pieces.
The program will close with a lively show by the Jazz Percussion Group, which was recently selected to perform at the prestigious International Society of Music Educators Conference in Bologna, Italy this July. Their program will feature the new music repertoire for their upcoming appearance at the conference.
Tickets for the event are $5 for general admission, $3 for senior citizens and UWG faculty and staff, and free to UWG students or high school students with ID. TCPA Box Office hours are Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 678-839-4722.
