It was a celebration of success and inspiration at the 27th annual Media Day as students listened to advice and wisdom from professionals in a business they hope to succed in after graduating from West Georgia.
“There is no substitute for hard work,” said Rhubarb Jones, a UWG alum ('74) and a member of the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame. “I say Carpe Diem and never give up on your dreams.”
Jones has received numerous national awards including Broadcast Personality of the Year, Country Radio Air Personality of the Year and March of Dimes Lifetime Achievement Award. The Tallapoosa native has been a strong supporter of West Georgia and said that visiting the campus was like walking on holy ground.
Dozens of students received recognition for their academic success and several received scholarships to help with their studies at the Media Day Honors Luncheon including UWG student Kelly McEwen who was awarded the first Rhubarb Jones Scholarship.
UTV13 will air the Media Day panel discussion and the speech that Jones gave at the Honors Luncheon March 15-21. The film will be shown on Saturday and Sunday, March 15 and 16, at 1 p.m.; and on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, March 17, 19 and 21 at 6:30 p.m.
